SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Korea Bizwire)Korean Air Co., South Korea’s leading carrier, has begun the practice of weighing each passenger on both domestic and international flights to enhance safety measures and decrease fuel expenses.

The airline said Sunday it plans to gauge the typical passenger weight, including carry-on luggage, on domestic flights at Gimpo International Airport from Aug. 28 to Sept. 6.

For international flights departing from Incheon International Airport, this process will take place from Sept. 8 to 19.

As per the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Regulations for Aircraft Weight and Balance Control, airlines are required to assess passenger standard weights at least once every five years or when necessary.

The data aids in computing average values, which in turn, assists in estimating the aircraft’s weight distribution.

All gathered data is anonymized and exclusively employed to guarantee flight safety.

Passengers who opt out of participating in the weight measurement can easily inform the airline staff.
