SEOUL, Mar. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — A permanent promotion venue for Korean fashion brands and designers will open in New York in February next year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Monday.
The ministry has pushed for the project in response to industry requests for a regular space for promotion and marketing at the center of global fashion, rather than participating in one-off events.
“The ministry will try to lay the groundwork to help young designers grow in the global fashion market,” an official from the ministry said.
The plan was first revealed in January during the ministry’s briefing of its key policies for 2017.
The showroom will be built with a budget of 2 billion won (US$1.68 million) this year before opening next February in time for New York Fashion Week, the ministry said.
It will be fitted with offices, an exhibition hall and runways, with the entire venue large enough to house up to 10 designer brands.’
