SEOUL, Nov.30 (Korea Bizwire) – Riot Games, famous for developing and distributing the online game ‘League of Legends’ (L.O.L) announced that it is digitally recording ‘Seowon’, the traditional Korean lecture halls that also served as memorial halls for Confucianist services to honor distinguished scholars and statesmen, in 3D.
The project is one of the endeavors Riot Games committed to with the Cultural Heritage Administration in 2012, when they signed the ‘Cultural Heritage Protection’ agreement. The company is planning to measure key Seowons in Korea, which are under discussion for inclusion as UNESCO World Heritage sites, and record them as digital data.
The Seowons to be digitally rendered in 3D are Sosu Seowon in Yeongju, Gyeongbuk Province, Donam Seowon in Nonsan, Chungnam Province and Pilam Seowon in Jangseong, Jeonnam Province.
When the project is finalized, the digital 3D images of the cultural heritage sites will be used for educational and promotional purposes. They could also be used as evidence when the heritage sites are damaged due to natural causes or disasters.
