MOKPO, Oct. 8 (Korea Bizwire) – In a unique cross-cultural television venture, Mokpo MBC and Vietnam’s VTV are collaborating on a reality program titled “Multicultural Night Market,” set in the heart of Mokpo’s old downtown district from October 7 to 11.

The show, which blends elements of reality TV and culinary entertainment, centers around a vacant storefront in Mokpo’s Jeolgeumui (Youth) Street that has been transformed into a Vietnamese restaurant.

The program will follow Vietnamese cast members as they navigate the challenges of running a restaurant in Korea, capturing the cultural exchanges and inevitable mishaps along the way.

Set to open on October 9, the project restaurant, aptly named Viquê (which translates to “Taste of Home”), will offer authentic Vietnamese cuisine including Hanoi bun cha, fried lotus root spring rolls with crab meat, and mini seafood banh xeo.

The show boasts an impressive lineup of culinary and entertainment talent. Chef Quan, often referred to as the “Gordon Ramsay of Vietnam,” will be joined by popular Vietnamese entertainers MC Hong Phuc and MC Trang Mu Tat. Adding local expertise to the mix is renowned Korean chef Kang Leo.

In a gesture of community support, proceeds from the restaurant will be donated to the local Vietnamese community association. Following the filming, Mokpo National University of Science and Technology plans to take over the operation, aiming to sustain the revitalization efforts in Mokpo’s old downtown area.

Kim Yun-sang, head of programming and production at Mokpo MBC, expressed hope that “Chef Quan’s exceptional Vietnamese cuisine will inject new vitality into the Mokwon-dong area, which has been losing its vibrancy.”
