SEOUL, Jan. 1 (Korea Bizwire) — With the South Korean government shutting down the nation’s famous sunrise spots to limit the spread of COVID-19, local citizens are planning to enjoy the first sunrise of the new year without contact with others.
A 27-year-old graduate student living in a house located in Gwanak District in Seoul, plans to enjoy the new year’s sunrise together with two friends on the rooftop of his house.
“I can see the sunrise well from the rooftop. I don’t have to visit famous sunrise locations,” said Park.
Even when people plan to visit famous sunrise spots, they opt to minimize face-to-face interaction with others via so-called ‘drive-thru sunrise’ viewing.
A 50-something salaried employee who used to enjoy the new year’s sunrise from the top of a mountain plans to drive to a famous sunrise spot and watch the sunrise inside the car along with his son and daughter.
“I’m looking for a spot where I can watch the sunrise well. I’m using the map application to find the best place with good landscape. Even if there is no area to park, I will watch the sunrise from my car,” he said.
There are some who are planning to enjoy the sunrise through video games.
A 33-year-old office worker living in Dongdaemun District in Seoul plans to enjoy the new year’s sunrise through the game “World of Warcraft.”
Some video games like “World Of Warcraft” and “Final Fantasy 14″ follow the day/night cycle, enabling users to enjoy amazing sunrise scenes.
