LG Announces ‘Final Four’ Local Schools Competing For ‘Project Fit America’ Physical Education Grant

ARLINGTON, Texas, March 20, 2014 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics USA today announced the “final four” North Texas elementary schools that will compete for a physical education grant at LG’s Coaches Cook-Off™ competition during the NCAA® Men’s Final Four® weekend.

The four schools – Silver Creek Elementary School (Azle), Cesar Chavez Elementary School (Fort Worth) West Elementary School (Fort Worth) and Central Elementary School (Seagoville) – were selected through a grant application process implemented by Project Fit America.

Coaches from each North Texas elementary school will be teamed up with Baylor head coach Scott Drew and Texas A&M head coach Billy Kennedy during the annual culinary showdown on Saturday, April 5 in the Infiniti Tip-Off Tailgate at AT&T Stadium.  Drew and Kennedy are both members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

An organization dedicated to helping schools create opportunities for youths to be active, fit and healthy, Project Fit America has raised more than $13 million for schools across the country. Dozens of local schools were vying for a chance to compete, and the four finalists were notified this week.

The LG Coaches Cook-Off is a centerpiece of LG’s Do Game Day Right on-site activities at this year’s Men’s Final Four. Each team will have 30 minutes to cook a selection of tasty game day treats using a full suite of high-performance appliances in the LG Kitchen at AT&T Stadium. The coaches’ dishes will be tasted and evaluated by panel of judges including college and pro basketball legend Clyde Drexler.

“Working with LG has proven to be a thrilling partnership,” said Stacey Cook, executive director at Project Fit America. “We received such a positive response from the North Texas community, and we can’t wait to see these four deserving schools compete in the LG Coaches Cook-Off.”

The winning school will receive the LG Project Fit grant, which will be used for indoor and outdoor physical fitness facilities along with a curriculum and on-site training support to help physical education teachers incorporate the program into their school’s academic plan. Additionally, all four schools will receive a variety of LG products, including ENERGY STAR® certified computer monitors, HDTVs and refrigerators.

Drexler, who is working with LG to help college basketball fans Do Game Day Right, is a big advocate for youth fitness. “What LG and Project Fit are doing here is terrific – leaving a lasting impact long after the NCAA Final Four games.”
