SEOUL, Apr. 9 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics Inc. said Tuesday it has adopted upgraded artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for its latest smartphones to provide users with smarter, faster services.
The South Korean handset maker said advanced AI engine and software power V50 ThinQ, its first 5G smartphone set for launch next week, and G8 ThinQ, its flagship 4G device released last month.
U.S. chip giant Qualcomm’s neutral processing engine for AI will make the smartphone camera eight times faster than previous models, and a deep-learning algorithm is designed to enhance the customized search functions on the devices, LG said.
For example, AI-enabled camera and data-driven technologies will sort through photos to find the most relevant image with the best quality, it noted.
The smartphones can connect to a wide range of other home appliances, which would allow users to control compatible televisions, air conditioners and cleaners with just voice commands.
“To provide customized services, smartphones should become smarter. Starting from the advanced search functions and tailored services, we will continue to upgrade the AI features,” Sohn Ju-ho, AI development department team leader at LG Electronics, said in a conference call.
“It will be more relevant in the 5G era as a number of devices will be connected to each other to exchange information.”
To address privacy concerns, the AI will utilize information stored in the devices, not retrieving data from centralized servers, the firm said.
