SEOUL, Dec. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics said Tuesday it is expanding its global free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) service, LG Channel, into the Middle East for the first time, launching in the United Arab Emirates this month.
The rollout extends LG’s FAST footprint—which already spans Asia, North America, Europe and Latin America—into another major media market. Taiwan is also being added, bringing LG Channel’s total reach to 36 countries.
In the UAE, LG Channel will feature regional news and lifestyle programming from outlets such as “Loving Dubai,” as well as Arabic streaming service “Watch It.” The lineup will also include international news, sports, entertainment, films, children’s programming and documentaries.
Given the Middle East’s strong appetite for Korean cultural content, the platform will offer dedicated Korean channels such as K-Baseball TV and Arirang TV, featuring Korean sports, music and entertainment.
To serve Arabic-speaking audiences—whose written language reads right to left—LG has introduced a newly designed interface tailored for the region. LG said the platform continues to customize features to match the cultural, linguistic and viewing habits of audiences in each market.
Launched in 2015, LG Channel is a flagship offering of the company’s webOS smart TV platform, delivering more than 4,000 channels worldwide. Over 260 million TVs now run webOS, according to the company.
“We will continue strengthening LG Channel’s competitiveness with diverse, locally tailored content and expand availability so viewers can enjoy it anywhere in the world,” said Cho Byung-ha, head of LG’s webOS Platform Business.
