SEOUL, Dec. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — LG is launching its HomeChat premium smart appliance service in the U.S. LG HomeChat is the latest innovation from the tech powerhouse that allows users to input commands in natural language and receive answers from smart appliances, also in natural language.
HomeChat works together with LINE, so you can text your appliances just like you text your friends. For instance, you can simply send your refrigerator an ‘away’ text message through LINE, and your refrigerator will go into an energy saving mode. You might want to text your washing machine to turn on and complete the laundry by the time you get home from work. Connected ovens can text users when they are done cooking.
The HomeChat service in the US will integrate with products from Nest, the American smart home company that was acquired by Google in January for $3.2 billion. Nest is known for its connected thermostat and has been cooperating with LG.
HomeChat also allows users to monitor how much energy their home electronics are consuming by providing relevant data and a Smart Grid system.
