SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s No. 3 mobile carrier LG Uplus Inc. said Wednesday it has successfully provided a live-stream of a baseball game through its latest technology equivalent to the fifth-generation (5G) network.
The mobile carrier said the high-resolution broadcast of the game was delivered through what it calls the 4.5-generation network at a data speed of 900Mbps. The speed is capable of downloading a 1GB movie in around 9 seconds.
Users were able to take advantage of the data transmitted and could enjoy games from different angles. This allowed viewers to feel as if they were actually on the field, the company said.
Since August, LG Uplus has been providing the 4.5G network, or near 5G services, in major cities throughout the country.
LG Uplus said the latest broadcast aimed to give viewers a glimpse of the 5G network services and its potential.
The company added it will continue to apply the top-notch streaming technology to more sports events down the road.
