BUSAN, June 16 (Korea Bizwire) – The Jung District Office in the city of Busan announced on Sunday that it had installed a “Literature Vending Machine” within the Culture Center of the district’s Bosu-dong Book Alley.
Once a button is pushed, the literature vending machine offers excerpts of poems, novels and essays on a printed receipt format.
The vending machine covers about 1,500 literary works, including “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald and “JIN-YI, JINNY” by South Korean writer Jeong You-jeong. Each print on average has excerpts of about 700 words.
The district office plans to add about 50 new literary works on a monthly basis. The vending machine can be used for free for anyone who visits the Culture Center of the Bosu-dong Book Alley.
“We hope the vending machine will arouse more interest in books and contribute to increasing the use of bookstores throughout the region,” an official at the district office said.
