CHANGWON, Feb. 12 (Korea Bizwire) – The number of municipal governments that are subsidizing pet medical care as a way to improve the welfare of pets and pet owners is increasing.
The South Gyeongsang provincial government announced on Thursday that it will provide financial assistance for pet medical expenses to low income groups for the first time this year.
Among the province’s basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty beneficiaries, the financial assistance will be offered to households who have opted for radio frequency identification (RFID) tag embedding procedure for their pets.
Starting from March 2020, the Busan metropolitan government has also been providing financial support for pet medical expenses to socially-vulnerable groups, including severely handicapped persons, basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty beneficiaries.
The city of Pyeongtaek, south of Seoul, has also been subsidizing pet medical expenses for socially-alienated groups since 2019.
