Luxury Cruise Makes Port at Incheon for the First Time

INCHON, Aug. 28 (Korea Bizwire)The cruise ship ‘Quantum of the Seas’, affiliated with Royal Caribbean Cruises, the world’s No.1 cruise company, entered Incheon’s new harbor today. The ship, which entered Korean waters for the first time, is the largest cruise ship ever to visit Korea.

The Quantum cruise is called a ‘hotel on water’, having outdoor pools, skydiving simulators, a spa, theater and duty free stores, as well as 2,090 guest rooms. The ‘North Star’, where passengers can enjoy scenery from a capsule on the highest part of the ship, is a particularly popular attraction.

The Quantum was headed for Japan, but made an emergency stop in Korea due to the influence of typhoon Goni.

Passengers were mostly Chinese tourists who headed to Seoul after the ship docked in Incheon. They will visit tourist spots such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, Gwanghwamun Gate and Myeongdong.

One tourist expressed eagerness about the unexpected landing in Korea. “We came to Korea due to a sudden change in the schedule, but I am so excited. Though it will be a short time, I plan to experience Korea as much as I can.”

The Quantum will leave Incheon tonight and head to Busan. After a day of touring Busan, the cruise will return to Shanghai on August 31.

Officials from Incheon Port plan to attract more cruise ships in the future. “With a 160,000 ton cruise ship entering our harbor, the status of Incheon as a cruise hub harbor was elevated. We will strengthen our marketing so that more cruise ships visit Incheon.”
