MOKPO, Nov. 19 (Korea Bizwire) — The South Jeolla provincial city of Mokpo is introducing a new system to provide more accurate real-time information on the location of public buses.
The city announced Thursday that it has become the country’s first local government to set up a high-precision bus location information system that uses the global navigation satellite system to track the location of buses with a level of precision of 10 centimeters.
The previous system used bus information terminals and mobile services to provide information on which bus station the bus was at, and how many minutes it would take for the bus to reach certain stations, which made it difficult for real-time information, such as traffic lights or traffic congestion, to be reflected accurately.
The new high-precision system will allow users to track a bus’s real-time location via smartphone, through the traffic information website.
