SEOUL, Feb. 3 (Korea Bizwire) – Koreans are on an exodus to the land of MVNO discount phone services, fleeing from mobile network operators such as SKT and KT. According to a report from the Korea Telecommunications Operators Association (KTOA) on February 2, the number of added net subscribers of MVNOs reached 64,500 in January alone, while SKT and KT lost 28,900 and 38,300 net subscribers respectively. Only LG Uplus saw an addition of 2,800 to its net subscriber number.

The number of added net subscribers of MVNOs this January was 14 percent bigger than in January last year. The MVNO industry is expecting to see an increase in the number of total MVNO subscribers from 4.6 million in 2014 to 6.5 million in 2015.

However, in comparison with the number of added net subscribers of MVNOs in December 2014, January saw a decrease of 13 percent. The migration seems to have been affected by enhanced marketing strategies from market leaders SKT, KT and LG Uplus, who are have increasingly focused their efforts on preventing customer loss to MVNOs.
