SEOUL, Jan. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — The city of Namyangju, located in Gyeonggi Province, announced on January 22 that it would be initiating a service starting in May to ensure the safe return home of socially vulnerable groups, including women and students.

This service becomes active when a smartphone is shaken or an SOS button is pressed when individuals are returning home late at night or are in potentially dangerous situations, transmitting the user’s location.

The service leverages 5,668 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed at 1,746 locations in the city, along with a smartphone app. To use the service, individuals must install the designated app, which sends the user’s location to both the CCTV control center and a predetermined guardian.

Additionally, Namyangju ity plans to install new security CCTV cameras in 55 locations this year, including areas vulnerable to crime, children’s protection zones, and playgrounds.

The city will also improve the performance of 80 existing CCTV cameras. This move is part of a broader effort to enhance public safety and reassure residents, especially those most at risk.
