DAEJEON, Aug. 22 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) said it has developed an innovative system that can create moving 3-dimensional shapes simply with digital pen drawings and multi-touch motions.
The KAIST research team succeeded in designing and realizing intuitive multi-touch motions, enabling designers to manipulate 3D sketches just like playing with toys with two hands, while developing an innovative sketching system optimized for creating moving 3D shapes.
With existing 3D CAD software, it is expensive and time-consuming to create a single moving model since it is specialized in high-precision shapes.
“The new technology can create 3D shapes that move freely in a 3D space far easier and faster than existing methods,” said Bae Seok-hyung, an industrial design professor at KAIST who spearheaded the research.
The results of this study were published in ACM Transactions on Graphics, an international academic journal specializing in computer graphics.
