JEJU, April 19 (Korea Bizwire) — The oldest magnolia tree in Korea, estimated to be 300 years old, has bloomed in the Hallasan Mountains (Mount Halla), marking the arrival of spring. The Hallasan magnolia, located in the Hallasan Valley, is found in deciduous broadleaf forests below 1,000 meters and is a rare species that requires conservation due to its small population and changing environment.

Magnolias are symbolic of purity and are widely used as ornamental trees. Less than 200 native magnolias are distributed in the Halla Mountains, making the occurrence of young trees rare, and there is a need to lay the foundation for creating and utilizing successor forests.
