DAEJEON, Feb. 17 (Korea Bizwire) — The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) has developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based trademark and design image search system and started using it for trademark and design examinations on Monday.
Thus far, the patent office’s trademark and design reviewers had to rely on their naked eyes when browsing thousands of images for each review.
The newly-developed system is expected to contribute to greatly shortening the time of search as well as improving the accuracy of examinations.
The image search system is designed to show the search results in the order of similarity after comparing newly submitted images with pre-registered ones.
For the classification of trademark and design, the AI-based system also gives automatic recommendations, enabling the designation of classification codes.
The KIPO applied a string of new AI technology for the digitization of paper documents, the translation of foreign patent documents and the recognition of patent drawing codes last year.
This year, the patent office is engaged in the development of chatbots for public consultations, an intelligent patent search system and automatic classification technology.
