GOKSEONG, Jan. 29 (Korea Bizwire) – Since its opening on December 22, a “small cinema social cooperative” in South Jeolla Province has proven to be a smash hit among the local populace.
More than 6,000 locals have patronized the movie theater in the month since it opened, according to Gokseong County, making the goal of 10,000 tickets sold by Lunar New Year (February 16) well within reach.
Gokseong County explained that the affordable ticket prices and the possibility of catching the latest movies within the area without having to head in to the city were two factors responsible for the movie theater’s booming business.
Whether it be weekday or weekend, the movie theater’s two screening rooms and 95 seats are always full, thanks to strong word of mouth.
The 10,000th visitor will be officially recognized in a special ceremony organized by the movie theater company.
A spokesperson for Gokseong County said, “We expect the small cinema social cooperative’s success to play a definitive role in invigorating the local economy.”
