SEOUL, April 9 (Korea Bizwire)To settle social struggles related to energy policies, including nuclear plants, and to discuss future plans and legislation, the Korea Nuclear Energy Promotion Agency (KONEPA) will set up a brand new organization comprised of civil experts.

Kim Ho-sung, chairman of the KONEPA, announced on April 8 that the Energy Future Discussion Committee would be established to discuss the future planning of Korean energy policies, and it would be run like the Club of Rome.

The Club of Rome is a non-profit and non-governmental organization established in Rome in 1968. Comprised of leading figures from political, economic and academic circles, it discusses current issues like climate change.

The KONEPA is planning for the committee to form national consensus on future energy policies by inviting representatives from all classes and sectors. For efficient arbitration of the struggles, it will implement procedural methods from the National Assembly. It plans to open every decision to national communication and make decisions based on public opinion.

Kim said, “The organization must be established quickly, as we need to discuss energy issues and make decisions considering climate change and forthcoming reunification.”
