SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea, which fought in the Vietnam War, has stepped up to help the disabled in Vietnam’s war-torn regions.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), South Korea’s overseas aid agency, said Tuesday that it had signed signed the Record of Discussion with the Quang Tri Provincial People Committee to help the disabled find jobs and go through rehabilitation.

Quang Tri Province was one of the major hotspots of the Vietnam War. The region still has the highest proportion of disabled individuals in the country.

KOICA plans to invest US$12 million by 2026 to build a four-story ‘Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center for the Disabled’ in the provincial capital of Dong Ha as well as supply equipment for rehabilitation and train some 400 medical and welfare workers.

The center will offer rehabilitation programs as well as vocational training to help the disabled reach financial independence.
