King Sejong Institute Offers Online Courses on Korean Culture in Vietnam

SEOUL, Jan. 4 (Korea Bizwire)The King Sejong Institute Foundation, a state-run Korean language education foundation, said Monday that it had conducted online courses on Korean culture at 16 middle and high schools and universities in Vietnam that include the Korean language in their primary foreign language curricula.

The foundation offered the online courses to some 2,500 students and staff in December at four middle schools, nine high schools, two Weekend Korean language schools and the University of Foreign Language Studies through the King Sejong Institute in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training in last year selected the Korean language as its primary foreign language to be included in the elementary, middle and high school curricula.

The foundation distributed a variety of materials to the staff at each school to conduct preparatory training. For students, the foundation sent out “Do It Yourself (DIY)” kits to their homes.

There are currently 12,000 students studying the Korean language at 22 King Sejong Institutes located across Vietnam.
