SEOUL, June 9 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean gaming industry is gradually reaping the benefits of investing in generative artificial intelligence (AI) research, following the emergence of ChatGPT.
NCSOFT Corp. has been expanding its investment to incorporate AI into game production and overall services, extending beyond its previous limited applications in game chat translation and customer data analysis.
The company plans to establish an AI platform that enables developers to integrate generative AI into coding, artwork creation, and other stages of game production.
Furthermore, the company is developing an interactive AI model capable of engaging in conversations.
“We are developing a compact language model for use in games,” a company official said.
Krafton Inc. has also been actively incorporating AI into the game production process.
The company is developing services that allow gamers to directly experience the AI platforms.
One such service is “Virtual Game Friend,” an AI designed to engage in conversations with humans during gameplay.
The company intends to implement the AI platform in games such as “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” and metaverse platforms like Migaloo, a joint development project with Naver Z Corp., the operator of the popular metaverse platform Zepeto.
Meanwhile, Smilegate Holdings Inc. established a dedicated AI center in 2020 to merge AI with virtual human technology.
Among the company’s virtual human technologies is Han YuA, developed jointly with Studio Giant Step in 2021.
This virtual human possesses the ability to produce natural voices and facial expressions through AI.
