SEOUL, Jun. 26 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are ramping up their efforts to dominate the hotel TV market, showcasing upgraded televisions and specialized solutions at HITEC 2024, the world’s largest hospitality technology show, currently underway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Samsung revealed on June 25 that it has integrated Apple AirPlay functionality into its hotel TV lineup. The company plans to initially implement this feature in its flagship hotel TV models, with a future software update expanding it to all models.
This move allows hotel guests to easily connect their iPhones and iPads to room TVs by scanning a QR code, without the need for additional apps or passwords. Samsung has also prioritized security, ensuring that device pairing information is automatically deleted upon checkout.
In addition to AirPlay integration, Samsung is presenting its comprehensive management solution for hotel TVs, LYNK Cloud. This platform offers real-time monitoring, remote control, security features, and user customization options.
It also includes an e-commerce platform, enabling hotels to implement an in-room ordering system for various products and services without additional solution purchases.
Samsung’s SmartThings Pro, a B2B integrated connection platform, allows for centralized control of Samsung products and other smart devices supporting the latest IoT standards like Matter and HCA.
Chung Jung-hoon, executive vice president of Samsung’s Visual Display Business, emphasized the growing importance of in-room entertainment in the rapidly expanding hospitality industry. He expressed confidence that Samsung’s diverse lineup and differentiated solutions would lead the hotel TV market.
Meanwhile, LG Electronics unveiled the world’s first hotel TV with Google Cast functionality specifically tailored for hospitality use. This follows LG’s earlier release of hotel TVs with Apple AirPlay, making it the first company to cater to both iOS and Android users in the hotel TV sector.
LG’s system allows guests with Android 6+ or iOS 14+ devices to connect to room TVs by scanning a QR code, enabling seamless content sharing without the need to log into individual streaming apps. The company has also addressed privacy concerns by automatically deleting TV connection history upon checkout.
LG’s exhibition at HITEC 2024 also featured other hospitality-focused products, including the LG Pro:Centric Stay platform for short-term rental properties, the 118-inch microLED LG MAGNIT for luxury suites, 55-inch transparent OLED signage, CLOi robots, and electric vehicle charging solutions.
Both companies are set to roll out their new hotel TV models in North America first, recognizing the region as a key market with a high concentration of trend-sensitive, upscale hotel chains. LG notably held the top market share for hotel TV shipments in North America last year.
