SEOUL, Aug. 24 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Asset Management Co., South Korea’s top money manager, said Monday that its Samsung Global Metaverse Fund surpassed the 50 billion won mark in assets under management just two months after being released as the ‘metaverse’ emerging as a central theme for investors in the fund market.
The fund, launched in late June, reached 51.05 billion won (US$43.6 million) in assets under management as of Monday.
Metaverse, a combination of meta (meaning beyond) and verse (from universe), refers to a three-dimensional virtual shared world in which all activities can take place with the help of augmented- and virtual-reality services.
Samsung Asset’s metaverse fund invests in a total of ten themes by classifying metaverse-themed global companies into three intensive investment groups and seven theme rotation groups.
The fund started with long-term investments in three themes – cloud computing, augmented reality and virtual reality – as core themes that are expected to drive the growth of the metaverse industry from a mid- and long-term perspective.
Using its own big data analysis system, Samsung Asset invests in 50-60 stocks within the selected theme categories on the basis of considerations of sentiment analysis and environment, social and governance (ESG) screening.
