SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electro-Mechanics held its fourth annual “Blue Elephant Forum” on November 6 at the Samsung Financial Campus in Seocho District, Seoul, to discuss cyberbullying prevention strategies and share the results of its flagship social responsibility program.
Launched in 2020, the “Blue Elephant” initiative aims to cultivate prosocial capabilities among youth, including honesty, commitment, forgiveness, responsibility, and consideration, while providing support for students affected by cyberbullying.
The program, led by Samsung Electro-Mechanics, brings together multiple Samsung affiliates including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung SDS, Samsung Biologics, and Samsung Bioepis.
It also enjoys support from government bodies such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and the National Police Agency, alongside private organizations including the Community Chest of Korea.
At the forum, Chang Duckhyun, CEO of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, stated, “Samsung initiated the Blue Elephant program with the hope of empowering youth to navigate the cyber world safely and develop resilience. We will continue working with government and civic organizations to prevent and eliminate youth cyberbullying.”
Research presented at the forum demonstrated significant positive outcomes. Professor Park Jong Hyo of Konkuk University, presenting his paper on the effectiveness of Blue Elephant’s prevention education, noted clear differences between students who received the program’s training and those who did not.
“Students who participated in the prevention education showed improved prosocial capabilities and increased confidence in handling cyberbullying situations. They also demonstrated a significantly higher rate of defensive behavior in actual cyberbullying incidents,” he explained.
The program has reached approximately 1.16 million participants, including students who received education and counseling, as well as teachers and parents who joined related campaigns. The initiative aims to expand its reach to 3 million participants by 2029.
