SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Korea Bizwire) — The German unit of Samsung Electronics Co. has distributed free polishing cloths used to clean smartphones to customers.
Experts assume that it is a part of Samsung’s marketing offensive aimed at Apple Inc.’s newly released polishing cloth, which sells for US$19.
Technology blog 9to5Mac reported that Samsung Electronics GmbH recently gave out 1,000 polishing cloths to local consumers for free, through a Samsung members application.
Owners of a Galaxy A42s, Galaxy S21, Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Flip3 and other Samsung smartphones were eligible.
Customers were able to sign up for a free polishing cloth through the Samsung Members app. The polishing cloth then would be sent via mail. Currently, all of the 1,000 polishing cloths have been claimed.
The promotional event was held exclusively in Germany. There are no plans to hold a similar promotion in South Korea.
Local media believe that Samsung’s free giveaway was aimed at Apple, which released a new polishing cloth in October for cleaning smartphones, tablets and high-quality displays.
Some consumers believed that a $19 polishing cloth, 16 centimeters in length and width, is overpriced.
