SEOUL, Feb. 11 (Korea Bizwire) Samsung Electronics’ new subscription-based purchasing model for its Galaxy S25 series is gaining popularity, particularly among younger consumers looking for flexible smartphone upgrade options.

According to Samsung on Sunday, one in five customers who pre-ordered the unlocked version of the Galaxy S25 series opted to join the New Galaxy AI Subscription Club. On Samsung’s official online store, the subscription rate was even higher, with 30% of buyers choosing the plan.

The program appeals particularly to younger users, as it allows annual device upgrades at a significantly reduced cost. Under the plan, subscribers can exchange their device after one year and receive a 50% residual value guarantee. If they return the device after two years, a 40% residual value guarantee is provided. Additionally, members benefit from Samsung Care+ smartphone damage protection.

The subscription model is proving especially popular with 20- and 30-somethings, who make up 60% of subscribers. The most subscribed model in the lineup is the Galaxy S25 Ultra, as premium models offer higher residual value compensation.

Samsung’s subscription strategy aligns with broader industry trends, with major South Korean telecom providers also introducing similar programs. As a result, the number of mobile device subscription customers is expected to continue growing.

Lim Sung-taek, Vice President of Samsung Electronics Korea, stated, “Through our subscription club, we aim to shape the future of smartphone purchasing trends by offering consumers a way to experience the latest innovations at an affordable cost.”

To further incentivize participation, Samsung is enhancing trade-in benefits for subscription members. Customers who purchase a Galaxy S25 series device and subscribe to the AI Subscription Club at Samsung Gangnam by February 28—or those who subscribe via Samsung.com and pick up their device at Samsung Gangnam—will receive an extra KRW 30,000 on top of the standard trade-in value when returning a used flagship device at the store’s third-floor recycling station. Trade-ins will be accepted until March 14.
