SEOGWIPO, Jan. 2 (Korea Bizwire) — The 19th Seogwipo International Winter Sea Penguin Swimming Festival was held on Tuesday at Jungmun Saekdal Beach on Jeju Island.
The contest was hosted by the city of Seogwipo, attracting hundreds of participants who jumped into the ocean to let the sea carry away the burdens of the previous year.
Side events included a dance contest, swimming races, a Korean wrestling contest, a treasure hunt, and a performance by the Republic of Korea Navy’s military band.
The participants also created video time capsules carrying individual wishes for the year, and built sand castles praying for the wishes to come true.
“Now I can go back full of health and energy,” said Yang Ji-seon, a participant in the contest. “I wish all the best for all South Koreans.”
