SEOUL, April 11 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government has begun a trial of a new artificial intelligence (AI) food scanner at cafeterias inside Seoul City Hall and Seosomun Annex for the reduction of food waste.
The food scanner automatically calculates the amount of leftover food by scanning plates at the return stand.
The sensor uses a contactless scanning tech that measures the weight of the leftover food and is capable of measuring the quantity of leftover food in real-time.
The big data on leftover food is then used to determine the appropriate amount of food to prepare and help the kitchen staff choose dishes that employees prefer.
The city government also set up scanners at the meal stand and the kitchen to measure the surplus stock of ingredients and optimize the amount of food being ordered.
