SEOUL, June 14 (Korea Bizwire) — SK global chemical Co., an affiliate of South Korea’s top refiner SK Innovation Co., will develop a new material for future cars in collaboration with the Korea Smart E-Mobility Association (KEMA).
The firm recently signed a deal with the KEMA to promote cooperation in the development of new materials aimed at reducing the weight of core components for ultra-compact electric vehicles (EVs).
The KEMA has maintained cooperative relationships with about 80 companies, including compact EV specialists such as CammSys Corp. and DPECO Co.
With the new agreement, SK global chemical plans to carry out empirical testing for the development of new materials for ultra-compact EVs, and to develop light-weight materials for mid and large-sized EVs from a mid- and long-term perspective.
To cope with the popularity of the e-mobility trend, the company has been expanding its eco-friendly initiatives and mutual cooperation with related industries under the principle of ‘3R’ (Recycle, Reduce and Replace) that is a key concept for its eco-friendly solutions.
In March, SK global chemical joined forces with South Korea’s top steelmaker POSCO to develop a steel and plastic composite material that can be used in the manufacturing of electric vehicles.
