SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Korea Bizwire) – Ssangyong Motor, the local unit of Indian auto conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra, has announced that it sold a total of 10,771 vehicles in August, including 7,517 units in the domestic market.
The automaker said on September 1 that its sales increased 10.3 percent over the same month of the previous year, thanks to soaring domestic sales boosted by the popularity of the Tivoli compact-sized sports utility vehicle.
Thanks to the Tivoli, Ssangyong’s domestic sales in August increased 45.7 percent over the same period of the previous year, and its accumulated sales also soared 37.6 percent over the same period.
The company has sold approximately 26,000 Tivolis so far in Korea this year, and by adding a diesel model to the lineup, it is now selling some 7,000 units monthly. With such popularity, some 6,000 drivers are still waiting for delivery of their new vehicles.
Ssangyong’s global sales have already surpassed its annual target of 38,000 units this year with sales of more than 5,000 units in each of the past five months. The company expects total exports to reach more than 60,000 units this year.
Meanwhile, by adding Euro 6 models to its SUV lineup, Ssangyong will actively promote sales through various events amidst the lowering of individual consumption taxes.
