SEOUL, Nov. 13 (Korea Bizwire) – In the past three months, the competition for second place within the streaming video service industry has been fervent. There’s a noticeable trend where user preferences are heavily influenced by the original content released at any given time, creating what seems like a content battle.

Based on recent Nielsen data, Netflix, the “global giant,” continues to maintain a dominant position, but its daily active users (DAUs) have fluctuated. Since the release of the second season of “D.P.” in late July, the numbers surpassed 2 million but dropped to 1.58 million in October due to the lack of a clear domestic hit.

The competition for the subsequent positions (second through fourth) is predominantly among domestic streaming companies, with Tving, previously holding the second spot, facing a decline against Wavve, Coupang Play, and Disney Plus.

Tving, which had 1.03 million DAUs in June, saw a decline to 880,000 in July, 820,000 in August, 770,000 in September, and 710,000 in October.

Coupang Play experienced significant fluctuations in DAUs, particularly during sports events like the exclusive broadcast of a national soccer team match.

Disney Plus observed a rise in DAUs, reaching 300,000 in August and 470,000 in September due to successful releases such as “Moving” and “The Worst of Evil.” However, the numbers dropped to 360,000 in October, sliding the company to fifth place.

In October, Wavve led with 760,000 DAUs, followed by Tving at #2, Wavve at #3 (710,000), and Coupang Play at #4 (470,000).

Wavve’s success was driven by various releases: “Revenant” and “Adventure by Accident: Season 2″ in June, “My Dearest: Season 1″ in August, “Covering the Greatest Demons” in September, and “The Deal” and “My Dearest: Season 2″ in October.
