SEOUL, Korea, Mar 19 (Korea Bizwire) – A recent study revealed that Thursday is the busiest day of the week for the food and daily necessities department of online stores, whereas Saturday happens to be their slowest day.
According to Auction, who analyzed the sales data from January 1 to March 13 to celebrate the second anniversary of “Mart On,” the company’s online store specializing in food and daily necessities, the sales on Thursdays were crowned to be the highest, accounting for 18.1 percent of the net sales. Next came Wednesdays (17.6%), Mondays (17.5%), and Tuesdays (15.4%).
Online stores have turned out to be quite slow on weekends. The sales on Saturdays only accounted for 8.3 percent which do not even reach a half of the sales on Tuesdays, and the sales on Sundays accounted for 11.0 percent.
The trend is entirely different from the sales pattern at brick-and-mortar retail stores including department stores and discount outlets whose sales on Saturdays and Sundays take up more than 40 percent of the net sales. It doesn’t even correspond with the general online sales trend which often records the highest sales on Wednesdays.
An Auction official said, “Such trend seems to reflect the new lifestyle of users who prefer to spare the weekends for recreational activities as well as the increase in dual-income households.”
“Especially since Auction Mart On provides a convenient shipping system in which the goods ordered before 6 pm are delivered within one day, the busiest day seems to be shifted from Wednesday to the day after,” the official said.
Sales promotions celebrating the second anniversary of Mart On will be held on the website until March 23. Each customer who shops at Mart On during the promotion period will receive a 10-percent discount coupon. With another 8-percent discount coupon given to all members in March, one can get up to 3,000-won discount on any product on Mart On. Other discount offers, limited-time events and sweepstakes are available on the website as well.
