HONGSEONG, July 28 (Korea Bizwire) — The Chungnam Fire Service Headquarters in South Chungcheong Province has inaugurated a special team specialized in lifesaving activities for fishermen and tourists isolated or stuck in tidal flats.
The headquarters recently held an inauguration ceremony for the tidal flat lifesaving team at the tidal flat in Hongseong, central South Korea.
This ceremony was attended by a group of firefighters working for the province’s six cities and municipalities that have tidal flats within their jurisdiction.
The special lifesaving team developed special lifesaving boards that can move more than 10 times faster than walking speed at tidal flats.
The number of tidal flat isolation accidents that happened in the province over the past three years totaled 175 cases, of which 99 cases or 56.6 percent of the total happened during the summer vacation season from June to September, according to the headquarters.
