DAEJEON, May 13 (Korea Bizwire)A local college is garnering attention thanks to its adoption of a speech-to-text translation tool for lectures targeting foreign students who lack competency in Korean.

Mokwon University in Daejeon is using this tool on a trial basis. If users speak into the computer mouse-shaped translation tool after pushing the interpretation button, the device converts the voice into text.

Professor Won Eun-seok received a donation of 30 artificial intelligence (AI) computer mice from a local company and started using them for his lectures this semester.

He plans to analyze the effect of the speech-to-text translation tool through surveys, reviews, interviews and performance tests with the students participating in the lectures for this semester.

“Foreign students tend to select relatively easy subjects due to the language barrier,” He said.

“This translation tool can help them expand the scope of choice to other subjects that require an in-depth understanding of lectures, while making the lectures run more smoothly.”
