University of California to Expand Korean Studies Department

SEOUL, Oct. 28 (Korea Bizwire)With the increasing popularity of Korea’s contemporary culture, the University of California plans to expand its Korean Studies program.

Korea Foundation’s Los Angeles office said Tuesday that three UC campuses have either recruited new Korean Studies professors or currently accepting recruits for the Korean studies department.

University of California, Berkeley recruited a new professor who will be teaching a Korean literature class starting this fall semester.

UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara each plan to hire an associate professor to teach Korean art history and Korean culture.

Other universities including University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Southern California and Loyola Marymount University also bolstered their Korean Studies programs by holding policy research projects, special lectures, and recruiting future scholars.
