SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Korea Bizwire) — Woori Bank, a major lender in South Korea, announced on Thursday that it had joined the metaverse alliance and would roll out metaverse-based future financing products and services.
The metaverse refers to a shared virtual space, in which users interact with each other through digital avatars and experience a virtual reality (VR) world.
The alliance is composed of 17 companies, including major wireless carrier SK Telecom Co, as well as auto giant Hyundai Motor Co., and eight industry groups, such as the Korea Mobile Internet Business Association.
In collaboration with other member companies, Woori Bank will promote a joint project to develop a ‘Metaverse Future Financing Platform’ and ‘Offline Metaverse Branch.’
Through the Metaverse Future Financing Platform, Woori Bank will use artificial intelligence (AI) bankers and cooperate with industry experts to develop a variety of services for its mobile banking app ‘Woori WON Banking.’
The ‘Offline Metaverse Branch’ is aimed at providing a new user experience by adding augmented reality (AR)-based financial information and services to physical sales outlets.
Woori Bank plans to set up a trial metaverse outlet to enable its customers to experience AR services in advance.
