GWANGJU, June 4 (Korea Bizwire) — President Lee Jae-myung emerged as the top choice in a nationwide mock presidential election held among South Korean youth, winning more than half of the votes cast by participants under the age of 18.

The mock election, organized by Gwangju YMCA and the Youth Mock Voting Coalition, surveyed 17,466 students nationwide aged 17 and younger ahead of the country’s 21st presidential election. The results, released Tuesday, showed Lee of the Democratic Party receiving 51.64% of the vote.

He was followed by former Reform Party candidate Lee Jun-seok with 19.56%, conservative candidate Kim Moon-soo of the People Power Party with 18.07%, and former Democratic Labor Party candidate Kwon Young-guk with 3.79%.

Support for President Lee was particularly strong in Gwangju and South Jeolla Province, where he garnered 69.06% and 60.51% of the vote, respectively.

The youth delegation plans to formally present a symbolic certificate of election to President Lee along with key policy proposals reflecting the priorities of South Korea’s younger generation.

“This initiative reaffirms that young people deserve a voice in decisions that shape their lives and futures,” a representative from Gwangju YMCA said. “We hope this served as a meaningful exercise for youth to evaluate presidential platforms and express their views.”
