SEOUL, Apr. 29 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai Motor Co.’s Genesis and Solaris have received Car of the Year awards in the premium and subcompact segments, respectively, in Russia, industry sources said Wednesday.
According to the sources, Kia Motors Corp.’s Cee’d also received the award for 2015 as a compact vehicle in Russia. In particular, the Solaris, known as the Accent in South Korea, got the recognition for the fourth straight year.
The awards are granted based on surveys of about 1 million consumers.
“The subcompact segment where the Solaris got the award is the market where the largest number of cars is being sold (in Russia),” a Hyundai official said. “Getting the award for four straight years reflects the popularity of Hyundai brands.”
Hyundai Motor has said that it will keep up efforts to strengthen its market status in Russia as opposed to other major brands that are seeking to close or suspend operations in the country to reduce their exposure to the market, which is in a slump due to unstable economic conditions.
