SEOUL, Aug. 23 (Korea Bizwire)Two hotels in Seoul that share the same “InterContinental” brand (InterContinental Grand Seoul Parnas and InterContinental Seoul Coex) revealed yesterday that their on-premise restaurants are currently using environmentally friendly abalone from Wando, South Jeolla Province certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC).

Chungsanbada, the producer and supplier of abalone to the hotel chain since 2013, was given Asia’s first abalone certification by the ASC.

As part of InterContinental’s promise to use locally grown food products at its hotels since 2012, both hotels require the use of fresh seafood grown in the clean waters off South Korean shores at their restaurants. All food outlets and restaurants within the two hotels use abalone grown by Chungsanbada.

Kim Yeon-seon, the general manager of InterContinental Seoul Coex, said that she hopes InterContinental will set an example for other hotels to select foods that have been produced following sustainable methods.

“Our hotel will continue to focus on foods that have been produced using sustainable methods, and we will strive to continue to increase such food sources at our hotels,” said Kim.
