SEOUL, April 6 (Korea Bizwire) — The National Police Agency is set to establish an SNS scanning system to detect emergencies or traffic jams in the second half of the year, said agency officials on April 2.
The agency will be developing a system that detects keywords such as accident, traffic and bumper-to-bumper on Twitter and Facebook and other SNS, and sends the information to the Urban Traffic Information System (UTIS) which will use the data to increase the accuracy of their traffic reports. The agency will be also able to dispatch patrol units in real-time if needed.
The agency is also set to designate Mondays and Fridays as new traffic enforcement days. This enforcement scheme is a national version of what used to be sporadic camcorder enforcement that only took place in big cities.
Korean citizens will be also able to download the agency-approved app in April, which they will be able to use to report traffic violations.
The agency also plans to build medians and crash barriers on roads where more than 4 jaywalking accidents have occurred over the past three years. A system to prevent additional casualties or damage at accident scenes by forming protective walls with police vehicles is also to be established.
