SEOUL, Nov. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s agricultural ministry said Wednesday it plans to host a traditional liquor festival this week in line with efforts to promote local consumption and exports.
The Korean Sool Grand Festival 2023 will kick off Friday for a three-day run in Seoul, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
“We hope the event will be an opportunity to expand the consumption of traditional liquors and the culture of enjoying them,” Vice Agricultural Minister Han Hoon said in a statement.
The market for traditional liquor came to 162.9 billion won (US$125.8 million) in 2022, rising sharply from 94.1 billion won in 2021.
Exports of the products also came to $24.6 million in 2022, up 40 percent from the $17.6 million posted in 2018.
