ANSAN, Feb. 20 (Korea Bizwire) – South Korea’s oldest independent circus is teaming up with AI-integrated robot arms to put on an experimental show.
The Seoul Institute of the Arts announced February 19 that a performance titled “Club Oneness” will be staged at its Ansan Campus on February 22 and 23.
Including two robot arms, the rest of the cast will be comprised of performers from the 93-year old Dongchun Circus, musical actors and acting students. All told, around 100 performers are set to take the stage.
Set in the future, the story is based on “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, and takes place at a nightclub in space.
Technology plays a part both in preparation of and during the performance. Two of the songs to be sung by the musical actors were composed by AI, while the two robot arms will feature in roles heavy on dancing.
Park Il-gyu, the lead director of the project, said, “The goal is to touch the hearts of the audience through a new storytelling method that fuses together the circus, which is the pinnacle of human physical performance, and artificial intelligence, which can surpass human intellect.”
