GANGNEUNG, Aug. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — Young Koreans who used to come by Gyeongpo Beach, located in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, staying up the night drinking and hanging out are now nowhere to be seen.
The provincial office imposed an administrative order to restrict assembly on eight beaches across the region, including Gyeongpo Beach.
Since July 18, the province has also banned drinking and eating at the beach between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Those caught violating the ordinance will be fined up to 3 million won (US$2,500), and will also be on the hook for the cost of quarantine in the case of a coronavirus outbreak.
To prevent clusters of coronavirus infections at beaches, Gangneung is focusing on deploying guards to its beaches every night.
Guards are now stationed in front of all beach entrances, and regular patrols along the coast are preventing visitors from holding drinking or eating parties.
