SEOUL, Jul. 10 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group and Chinese internet search behemoth Baidu will strengthen their partnership in developing connected vehicles and related technologies, the company said Tuesday.

In their strategic business partnership, Hyundai Motor Group and Baidu will jointly develop connected car services that provide a variety of in-car content based on big data, maps and artificial intelligence, Hyundai said in a statement.

“The convergence of the ICT (information and communication technology) and automotive industry is happening at an unprecedented rate, motivating us to develop and provide new possibilities for our customers. Through partnership with Baidu, we will develop industry-leading connected vehicles,” Choo Kyo-woong, head of the Infotainment Development Group at Hyundai Motor, said in the statement.

Moreover, the two companies plan to install Baidu’s AI robot “Xiaodu In-Car OS” in the Korean carmaker’s vehicles for volume production, while planning to introduce in-vehicle voice recognition services based on Baidu’s natural language processing and Hyundai’s noise cancellation technologies, the carmaker said.

In other areas, they will continue efforts in speeding up the launch of intelligent vehicle-to-home services to make a presence in the competitive internet of things (IoT) market, it said.

Hyundai and Baidu have maintained business ties since 2015 in the fields of in-vehicle infotainment platforms and autonomous driving programs, the company said.
