SEOUL, Feb. 22 (Korea Bizwire) – Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea’s leading carmaker, plans to showcase all three electric vehicle models to be launched under the name of the Ioniq at a motor show in Geneva next month, industry sources said Monday.
The Ioniq is the first eco friendly model that Hyundai Motor has developed based on its own production platform, as opposed to its others, the main designs and frames of which mostly come from existing vehicles.
Hyundai Motor launched the Ioniq hybrid last month with plans to expand its lineup to electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle versions later on. In June, the pure electric version is expected to hit the market here.
The Ioniq trio will be on display during the Geneva Motor Show, which will be held from March 3-13 in Geneva, Switzerland, the sources said.
This will mark the first time for the pure electric and plug-in versions to be unveiled on the global stage. The hybrid version will also meet European customers for the first time since its January launch.
Their showcase during such a major motor show is seen as an effort by Hyundai Motor to leave a strong impression on potential customers in Europe where countries are toughening their fuel efficiency-linked regulations.
The Ioniq hybrid, for example, is known for its relatively high fuel efficiency of 22.4 kilometers per liter, which Hyundai Motor hopes can put up a good fight against the long-time market leader Toyota Prius in the global market.’
