INCHEON, April 16 (Korea Bizwire) — Incheon port, South Korea’s second-largest maritime gateway, is introducing a smart safety management system using artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.
The Incheon Port Authority (IPA) said Thursday that it had launched a smart safety management system on a trial basis for the management of the floating landing pier at the port’s coastal passenger terminal and for better response to disaster and accidents.
This system, based on IoT sensors and CCTV cameras, collects information on the position of persons and objects and sends it to an integrated control center in real time after conducting an AI image analysis.
Accordingly, when accidents like falls into the sea or ship fires occur, the system can automatically detect the accidents within 10 seconds and send an alarm alert enabling rescuers to fully benefit from the so-called golden hour.
The IPA plans to develop a more advanced system using digital twin technology by next year and apply it to the port’s 26 floating landing piers on a step by step basis.
Incheon port needs the floating pier for coastal passenger boats and small-sized fishing boats to berth at the terminal since the port’s sea level changes by up to 10 meters during the ebb and flow of the tide.
The landing piers are always floating on the sea, thereby being vulnerable to corrosion, leakage and breakage.
The introduction of the smart safety management system will enable real-time monitoring, improving safety.
