JEJU, March 18 (Korea Bizwire) – An international expo for electric vehicles kicked off in South Korea on Friday with major automakers showcasing their latest EV models and holding a series of meetings to share their views on the current and future technologies for eco-friendly vehicles.
The 3rd International Electric Vehicle Expo (IEVE) began on the resort island of Jeju, with 145 companies, including Hyundai Motor Co., Renault Samsung Motors Co., BMW and Nissan, joining the event that will be held until Thursday, according to its organizers.
This compares with 73 companies that came to last year’s expo.
Nearly 20 EV models will be displayed. In particular, Hyundai Motor plans to take the wraps off the EV version of the Ioniq for the first time. The Ioniq is the company’s first dedicated green car model based on its own platform.
Other carmakers will unveil their latest EV models. Renault Samsung, the largest EV maker in terms of sales in Korea, will showcase three vehicles, including the SM3 ZE and the two-seat Twizy. Nissan’s best-selling Leaf will also be on exhibition.
LG Chem Ltd., Samsung SDI Co. and other major battery makers will also present their latest technologies and products to global leaders and visitors, the organizers said.
On the sidelines of the expo, a variety of events will be held, providing a platform for industry leaders to share their views and come up with better ways to boost the EV industry.
A forum will also be held to offer a chance for business leaders and experts to share their views on the standardization of batteries, charging methods and other items, which could be the key to the fast advancement of the EV industry, the organizers said.’
